Using a fluorocarbon leader can greatly improve your chances of catching predatory fish!
Fluorocarbon monofilament lines are completely transparent and do not bend light, so they cast virtually no shadow. This is especially important in clear water and when spinning near the surface because predatory fish have highly developed eyesight. A leader is also much stiffer than braided line, so it is less likely to tangle and the lure's hooks are less likely to snag on it.
When you use fluorocarbon of a suitable thickness, sharp pike teeth are less likely to bite through it than braided main line, as these abrasion-resistant lines are less prone to damage. This abrasion resistance is also a major advantage around snags, rocks and submerged trees, where the line is less likely to be damaged on contact.
