The popular, proven Long Cast model in a traditional version with a rear-mounted baitrunner drag.
Its main feature is that it was built for long-distance casting! The large-diameter spool allows the main line to leave with minimal resistance, even on powerful casts. The large spool diameter is also gentler on the line, reducing line deformation and the risk of tangles. For reliable, stable operation over the long term, the reel uses a worm-shaft spool oscillation system, normally found only on high-quality reels designed for heavy loads. This system also ensures excellent line lay. The reel includes two further important innovations: a rotor brake that blocks rotor movement when the bail is open, preventing accidental bail closure during casting, and an anti-tangle frame beneath the spool that prevents the main line from winding under it.
The spools of the previous and new Long Cast reels are fully compatible, identical in size and interchangeable. Despite its robust build and substantial internal engineering, the Long Cast LCS 5500 weighs a surprisingly low 606 g. Its main front drag sits between a traditional long-stroke drag and a quick drag: it opens or closes fully in 2.5–3 turns instead of one, and is much more finely adjustable than the previous model. The baitrunner is engaged using the control at the rear of the reel, activating free-spool mode. Its resistance can also be adjusted using the rear dial.
