Because of its refractive index, fluorocarbon is less visible underwater, making even the wariest predators easier to fool. It is also highly abrasion-resistant, making it harder for fish to bite through and allowing longer use. It also helps during casting by stiffening the front section of the rig, reducing the chance that the lure wraps around the thin braided line.
It is now also available pre-rigged, so you no longer need to assemble it at the water's edge.
